Zach Lamplugh: Camera Dork

This is the latest thing I’ve done that’s been at all interesting. This was shot in the Windsor Court Hotel on the 23rd floor and it was frikkin awesome to be there. Everyone was super nice and they even paid to put us up in our own room at the hotel. So… of course I walked across the street and gambled away part of my paycheck. But yeah, great time. That light I posted a picture of is the only light i had for this thing and it worked really really well. With a little bit of a diffuser on it, the thing was great. And it’s battery powered so it was super convenient. Lemme know what you guys think.

And, on the real though, if you guys know anyone who wants this kind of thing done for a wedding or something like that……. I seriously have no gigs lined up for May so… I need rent. srsly.

New light!

Figured I’d blog about equipment since it’s what I think about most of the time.

So a lot of people who work in photo and video worry about looking unprofessional based on the equipment that they’re using. I usually just try to worry about the quality of the video I’m shooting or the photo that I’m taking but that’s just me, you know. And btw for none of these videos posted on tumblr involved a tripod or a steadicam (obviously not) or a dolly. The only thing I used to stabilize my camera during any of these videos was a piece of wood. And if anyone’s wondering… I think it’s a 1x3.

So my policy on equipment is this: If it’s a piece of equipment that I don’t understand (something that has to do with science or electronics or even numbers past 8) I usually just pay top dollar for the best of the best. But if it’s something simple like a diffuser or a track dolly, hell yeah I’ll build it!

This weekend I’m going to shoot a giant anniversary celebration thing where the couple renews their vows et cetera. And I was warned that there may be some dim lighting. So without further ado:

LED camera mounted lights are actually pretty popular and until now I never had anything like that. I’ll at least go to the trouble of spray painting everything black. But for right now Zach Lamplugh is the most ghetto guy working in video.

Speaking of I don’t think I ever posted this concert footage. It’s from a show that Purpetrator played at Nick’s Ice House in Hattiesburg. If you click the link to the actual URL on my vimeo you can read about the different cameras we used. Not the best quality video but it is what it is, and I honestly do enjoy the way each camera looks completely different.

However! That being said! I’ve gotta figure out a better way to shoot with the D5000. I wasn’t shooting that camera but the footage all looks a little wonky. In kind of a good way, but not something I’d probably want to replicate.

The rest of the concert is soon to come!

This is one of my recent event videos. Not artsy, but still fun and a decent way to make money. Should be done with another music video though and then more concert footage!

moonlightandroses asked: Spending all your money on video equipment? Totally forgivable & acceptable. :D

Yep. Seriously I don’t think you’ve seen all the new stuff but lemme know if you wanna come hang out. Cause this stuff is fun. ;)

if you can't make it but still want in, let me know via email

Can’t this time brah. I would but I am super busy this month. Lemme know when the next one is though, cause I am so super down.

Went to the parents for a few days to take care of some stuff. Brought some of my equipment home thinking I might get a chance to get some work done, but I was too busy resting and all.

But… I can’t stop moving and I get bored easily and since I did have three cameras and all my lenses I did actually break out some old rolls of film, my pentax MX and messed around. I haven’t shot film in probably a year and most of the reason I even own these cameras is because I run my video through the lenses et cetera, but it gave me something to do.

These are my dogs Holly and Calvin and if you have a tennis ball they might pose for you too.

By the way this tumblr is pretty much just going to be me nerding out about photos and videos. So strap yourselves in.

moonlightandroses asked: No, I don't post my own photos unless I specify. I don't have a professional camera at my disposal or I would. :)

Me neither. I need to pick up a nice DSLR, so far I’ve been borrowing Mansfield’s D5000 and using my old Pentax film bodies. I’ve been meaning to pick up a Canon 60d but I spent all my monies on my video equipment :(

Final music video for Edward Appleby’s single “The Colony.” Let me know what ya think!

Here’s a webspot I did for CrossFit Eastern Shore.
